Background

Having begun our venture in the Blaye region with Chateau Puynard in 2016, just five years on we received the keys to Chateau Magdeleine Bouhou In January 2021. Having admired the terroir here for some time, we set our sights on broadening our offering by adding another Blaye vineyard, but which offered a slightly different terroir and aspect to that of Puynard. Both vineyards have their own character, and we feel with both properties together, we have a strong offering that showcases the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation very well.

DISCOVER THE WINE

This is our take on the traditional Bordeaux blend from the right bank with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. As with all our wines, the parcel-by-parcel vinification in small concrete vats, which is adapted to punching down (or pigeage) allows a supple and controlled extraction. A round and fresh wine with an immediate pleasure, drinkable from its youth, it also offers a good aging potential.

This cuvée represents the best expression of Château Magdeleine Bouhou’s terroir. The two main grape varieties are Merlot and Malbec, harvested on a strict selection of clay-limestone plots which is crossed by an outcropping limestone vein. The wine is matured in 500-litre barrels and vinified in concrete vats, using the punch down or pigeage method. This style is typical of the great wines of the right bank and grows in finesse with time.

A new addition to our range, this wine displays a beautiful deep purplish colour, this sulphur-free wine develops an attractive nose of red fruits, morello cherry, wild blackberries and thyme scents. Revealing a supple and clean attack, the palate also has a silky texture and a tender structure, where elegance leads us towards a long and aromatic finish. Very suitable for charcuterie, cold meats, grilled meats, barbecues and young cheeses.

Originally the private home of the previous owners, this charming house is now our private gîte which is nestled within our working Côte de Blaye, Bordeaux vineyard. It is a beautifully refurbished home with 5 bedrooms that comfortably sleeps 10 people. It includes a private garden, outdoor shower, generous heated plunge pool, terrace & BBQ area.

Château Puynard

The Chateau Puynard story is one of following a passion to continue to create great wine along with a love for the Bordeaux region of Blaye. With experience in the retail wine trade in London, we embarked on this cross-water adventure in partnership with Naomi’s father, Eugene. In 2016, after exchanging keys on the 18th-century Chateau in the village of Berson, our family began the journey to make quality Bordeaux wine. Led here after several hypothetical discussions of ‘what ifs’, we have overcome steep learning curves and gained an enormous respect for the land and it’s vines, after leaving our urban life in London.

Two Origins Distillery

The name Two Origins is derived from a combining of our two heritages, in pursuit of creating a truly unique expression of both origins, within one whisky. Both our cultures are rich with history and world renowned for their production of the finest spirits for several centuries. Whiskey production has existed in Ireland for several hundred years while France has developed a reputation for refining and perfecting within the wine and spirits trade. Together, in a reunion of long-held cultural ties and knowledge, we seek to create our own embodiment of these two origins in our triple distilled cask-aged Irish whisky which has 'Irish Origins, French Roots'.

The wine produced at Château Magdeleine Bouhou is available to purchase in our online shop.
